Example 1
The best supervisor I have had was a lady name Susan. Susan made me feel like she honestly cared about me as her employee and as a person. I personally felt like I could trust her and she was fun to be around. Susan not only sat and listen to her employees but she also engaged in the conversation with a hmm here, and a question there. She made sure her employees knew she had an open door policy. When I was having a bad day somehow Susan was able to make us less stressed either by coming on to the floor and helping up with patients or allowing us to take an extra break or pulling us into her office just to have girl talk which I realized later was her way of getting our minds off what was really bothering us. To this day I have never had a supervisor like her. Susan would never ask her staff to do something that she wouldn’t do or haven’t done herself, she was definitely a hard worker that genuinely enjoyed taking care of her patients and staff.
Now on the other hand the worst supervisor I ever had was a guy by the name of Michael (Big Mike). I did not like him at all. For one he played favorites and of course I was not one of his favorites. I did not trust him at all and I was not the only person that felt that way in the department. When you come to him with a complaint about something he made you feel like if you are the problem. Instead of addressing the issues he would glaze over them and sweep them under the rug. Honestly in this week reading Big Mike portrayed all 15 traits of a terrible leader. He was the type of supervisor that would say after his team lost “YOU ALL” need to do better, well I thought it was a team and you are the lead so technically he should do better at leading the team. Mike would never take blame. In his eyes I really believe he thought he was perfect.
With both supervisors having to totally personalities, of course both work environments were completely different. Susan work place was more laid back, less stressful, more coworkers hung out together outside of work and we had work potlucks for any reason. Big Mike unit was filled with drama, mostly among the women because he would flirt with whoever would give him the time of day. There were no potlucks, and the environment was very cliquish. Honestly working while Mike was the supervisor made me feel like I was in high school all over again, nothing but drama.
